INTERLAKE SPORTING ASSOCIATION
The closest 200yd rifle,
pistol, archery and paintball range,
mixed-use sporting facility and nature preserve to Seattle
and Bellevue
Membership
Our beautiful little facility is a private club, operated by volunteers. Independent use of our range is limited to those certified as a P.I.C.; current members, their personal guests, organized special interest groups and commercial clients. Members of the public are always welcome as supervised guests of members, as participants with organized SIG activities, and on Open Gate days for the required safety training that accompanies closely supervised shooting.
Membership in our group is a good option for those who wish to join us more than about 3 times per year, like YOU! If you're considering membership, please attend one of our work parties or monthly meetings (no RSVP needed), meet some of our members, tour the facility and fill out the REQUISITE FORM. Member applicants are only voted into the group during general meetings, the first Wednesday evening of every month, after submitting an application and paying the annual fee (cash or check in person). The current fee is $200 per year for unlimited use of the facilities, for every regular member. First time applicants are also assessed an additional, one-time, $50 fee. Guests of members are not assessed a fee. The responsibilities and expectations of members are not excessive; as a volunteer organization, we need you to attend the work parties and contribute time and effort to the group. Without YOUR efforts, nothing happens. Members have access every day the facility isn't otherwise reserved. Please check us out and consider joining our group! Come to any general meeting by 1900 hrs to apply.
Person In Charge ( P.I.C.) classes
All members are certified as a P.I.C., which training is available for prospective members, as well. Please remember that all individual range users must be certified as a P.I.C., so attendance is to your advantage. You'll learn interesting facts, receive safety training, learn things that maybe you didn't know and become a better and safer range user and shooter. There is a written test at the end of the class, which you MUST pass, and the instructor is motivated to ensure you understand the details, so this is not something you will sleep through. The issue is serious and while the fundamental points are simple, the application requires a functioning brain, good physical control and coordination, and a good command of spoken and written English. The certification you'll receive is recognized by King County, so conveys other advantages to you, as well as helping us.
All new applicants for membership as firearm users are required to become a certified P.I.C., as will a supervising representative from any commercial client group. Clients may find it useful for several people to have this certification. Please contact us with your needs and we will accommodate you and your scheduling as much as possible. There is no fee for this service.
We will offer a class by prior arrangement, according to need. Normally we will offer a class immediately following the general meeting each month. This means the class will start around 9pm and last until around midnight, or whenever it finishes. No, it won't end early just to suit you. Should those folks who join at a monthly meeting not be willing to attend this class, we will exchange email addresses with all concerned, and arrange some other mutually convenient time. The class takes about 3 hours, and is preferentially held with the largest group of applicants possible at the time. If you wish to join and to attend the evening class, please let us know in advance if possible, at interlakesporting@hotmail.com . We need to plan for the number of people who will attend.
As with everything of value in life, in addition to the written test, everything is also a 'personality and attitude test', of course. We're serious about operating a facility to the highest standards and Best Practices and we require your enthusiastic cooperation to do this. We consider your attitude as part of the exam, and with respect to application for membership, as well. Than means you may be denied membership or certification on this basis. We're sure that's the way you want it also, and that we'll all benefit from having an informed and serious attitude about safety and standards.
Please remember that all individual users of the range must successfully pass this class, and all groups using the range must have at least one certified P.I.C. among them. For more information, please contact us, above, and please make sure you leave info about how to reach you.
